The only original game Sega developed for the PS1 has just got a new fan translation hack from Hilltop, OldGameBox, and Cargodin.
Mini-Moni. Shakatto Tambourine! da Pyon! is a 2002 Samba De Amigo style rhythm game starring the Japanese pop group Mini Moni and featuring songs from Mini-Moni and another girl group named Morning Musume. It is part of the Shakatto Tambourine! series, which originally started in the arcades, and notably features a tambourine-style controller in place of Samba De Amigo's maracas.
Mini-Moni. Shakatto Tambourine! da Pyon! is the only game in the series to carry the Mini-Moni theming, with the other titles featuring a wider variety of music from a selection of Japanese pop acts.
Bizarrely, the Shakatto Tambourine! series never received a port for a Sega console, despite originally being released during the days of the Dreamcast. However, Sega later decided to develop a Mini-Moni-themed version for the PS1 in 2002, following its switch to becoming a third-party developer. This version of the game was released with a special tambourine controller, which should also be compatible with the hack if you're lucky enough to track one down.
You can download the patch now from HilltopWorks Patreon (no paywall).

A Sega Game developed for the PSX is a fun Curiosity as seing the Sony Logo on a Super Nintendo Game (Vortex was published by Sony in PAL Territories, also Super Bomberman)
" featuring songs from Mini-Moni and another girl group named Morning Musume"
I'm not an expert, but mini-moni is effectively a Morning Musume side project. In the days before Japanese girl bands had 48 members.
@Azuris
the difference is, seeing Sony published games in SNES was normal before it was seen as weird. π
Sky Blazer is another Sony published game on SNES.
Now that's just cool. Well done, translators and modders!
@Azuris
Not really? Checking Mobygames, Epic/Sony published something like 17 titles, where Sony ImageSoft and their derivatives published something like 66.
Seeing a Sony name before the PSX was actually pretty common.
It's a fun novelty, in hindsight, but not really noteworthy.
Oh my, thanks for sharing this news, Jack! I literally imported this game three months ago, and I've been playing it a little here and there, but the problem is that menu navigation is quite a pain to deal with.
This is literally my favorite classic gaming news in a long time!
Remember when Sega was going to port Saturn games to the PS1 but never did?
