Inspired by a Gamecube thread, I guess there is and Atari Jaguar thread. This was a console and this thread is about it. I don't have one, do you?
(Please don't argue. Thanks.)

I have 2 kind of, I have one with all the pads and wires, and then I have a spare base unit without any pads or wires, really don't remember how I got the one with nothing. I have a small collection of games but have some cool stuff like AVP, never actively really collected for it just got a cool bundle on a carboot for very little then grabbed a tiny bit of extra stuff.

I was always intrigued by the Atari Jaguar when I saw it on display in Rumbelows window (yes im old). But the look of it and its odd controller as well as the games available kind of killed any interest for me. Even now its one of the consoles that Ive never really looked to purchase or even emulate for that matter.

@TheIronChimp the two worst things the controller and it not being as powerful as they made out.....

I think a good usb pad and a keyboard and taken with realistic expectations and some games on it could be quiet fun

Never played a Jaguar. Growing up my best friend's parents had one, but they wouldn't let us play it. I did get a chance to play one years later at the Portland Retro Gaming Con and quite honestly I felt that the SNES was better.

Your right on the whole advertised power. I seem to remember that when I saw the console on display it was next to a PC showing the intro to Themepark and other PC related demos. Whilst the demo on the Jaguar was for Cybermorph (I think). Cybermorph looked really bizarre and didn't seem next gen compared to what else was on display at the time.

@Tasuki It is theoretically more powerful than the SNES but it was apparently hard to programme for and it never really got going, so there are a heck of a lot of SNES games that blow the Jag out of the water.

@kerr9000 To be fair I only played it for 10-15 minutes and only one game and that was Doom, which I thought the SNES version was so much better.

@Tasuki Yeah I think the SNES Doom is better, they knew how to programme for the SNES far more, and wasnt that a super FX game as well?

I've got a couple of Jag consoles and managed to get a Jag CD before they hit monumental levels of expense. I've never been too keen on the system, although it does have a good version of Brutal Sports Football on it, much better than the CD32 version.

@kerr9000 I believe it was. That was my first exposure to Doom, on the SNES. I remember all the kids talking about it at school but I didn't have a PC so I couldn't play it. I remember being so excited when I heard it was coming to SNES so I could see what all the hype was about!

I have a Jaguar and CD expansion (that I refer to as a Toilet Seat).
I have 5 cartridge games (Cannon Fodder, Doom, Pinball Fantasies, Tempest 2000, Wolfenstein) and 2 cd games (Blue Lightning, Vid Grid)
Blue Lightning was like Afterburner, except much, much worse. The Cartridge games played ok from what I remember, Cannon Fodder, Pinball Fantasies were pretty much Amiga Ports, with better visuals.
Doom was not too bad, better than SNES and 32X from my memory (it has been a long time).
Always wanted Alien Vs Predator which was like a ‘Killer App’ (I hate that phrase), but never got round to getting it.

I have not had it hooked up for many years. I just do not have the space to have all of retro consoles hooked up, but I refuse to sell them.

The Jaguar is a sore point for me. Back in the late 90's I was a huge Aliens fan (Still am) and really wanted Aliens VS Predator on the Jaguar. At that point, it was a dead system and I bought one second hand with a controller, AVP and Cybermorph for £14 (probably about £20 of todays money). I played it a bit, kept it on the shelf and bought a couple of games.

About 12 years ago, was having my first child and I had to save on space and sold it for not that much. Cue a few years later, I get back into retro game collecting and can't even comprehend the prices it is going for.

Sigh. I never really liked it that much though it had a few quite creative games but it is such a unique console from a historical perspective.

Now I may be an idiot, but there's one thing I am not sir, and that sir, is an idiot

I had a Jag briefly in the late 90s, around '96 or '97 i think while I was in college. Went to a computer expo at a local civic center, a guy had one for $15. I said I'll take it, he brought out a plain white box that contained a boxed Jaguar, extra controller, and Checkered Flag. It was unsold stock he must have picked up on the cheap, remember at that time nobody wanted anything to do with Atari so stuff was next to nothing. I had always wanted to play AvP, so I got that and found it to be not so great. I really didn't like the framerate. Later on I picked up Kasumi Ninja for laughs, I mean who didn't like Angus shooting fireballs out of his kilt? I played Iron Soldier for a bit but again the framerate was not good. After that I got kinda bored of the Jag, by now ps1 was really taking off, so I sold the Jaguar and games and didn't look back.
