APWOT

There are video game magazines, and then there's A Profound Waste of Time. More of a tribute to the art of making games than anything else, this publication has run to two issues so far and has featured the likes of Toby Fox, Ashly Burch, Rami Ismail, Keita Takahashi, Tetsuya Mizuguchi and Jenny Jiao Hsia, discussing and dissecting games like Undertale, Shovel Knight, 2064: Read Only Memories, Katamari Damacy, Tetris Effect and more.

Created by London-based graphic designer Caspian Whistler, APWOT has leveraged Kickstarter to secure its funding, with issue one raising £39,000 and issue two £62,165. Now, due to the popular demand, both issues are getting a reprint – also via Kickstarter – and with 16 days of funding left on the clock, the campaign has already raised an impressive £89,590 (at the time of writing).

Whistler was nice enough to send us copies of both issues, and it seems almost unfair to call this a 'magazine'. It's more akin to a coffee-table book, boasting gorgeous design, high production values and some wonderfully insightful features. The fact that it's the developers talking here gives the whole project a refreshingly open and candid vibe, and the design work is fantastic. Oh, and it smells really nice, too.

If you like what you see, then be sure to lay some cash down and support the reprint, which will, of course, support the entire project moving forward.
